Journiarc (“we,” “us,” or “our”) operates this platform. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using Journiarc, you agree to the practices described here.

2. Information We Collect

We collect information in the following ways:

• Account information: When you sign up, we collect your email address, display name, and any profile details you choose to provide (such as a bio or avatar).
• OAuth sign-in: If you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address, and profile picture from Google as permitted by your Google account settings.
• Content you create: Projects, posts, and everything you add to boards (such as cards, suggestions, contributions, reactions, and comments) are stored on our servers.
• Settings and preferences: Your notification and email settings, and, when you're signed in, which changelog updates you've already seen.
• Referrals and project visits: When you view a project page, respond to a prompt to follow a project, or use the comment, suggestion, reaction, or contribution tools on a project board, we record the project, what happened, the time, an anonymous session ID, the invite or referral tag of the link you arrived from (if any), and your account ID if you're signed in. If you create an account through someone's invite link, we record who invited you.
• Usage data: We may collect standard server logs including IP addresses, browser type, pages visited, and timestamps to keep the service running and secure.

3. How We Use Your Information

• To create and manage your account
• To display your profile, projects, and activity to other users as intended by the platform
• To send account emails, such as sign-up confirmation codes
• To send emails about the site and the projects you create or follow, such as activity notifications, digests, welcome emails after you sign up, project suggestions, and weekly recaps for creators
• To understand how people find projects, such as which invite and shared links bring in visitors and new members
• To monitor for abuse, security threats, and technical issues
• To improve the platform over time

You can choose which emails you receive in your notification settings, and every notification email includes an unsubscribe link. Account emails, such as sign-up codes, are always sent when needed. We do not sell your personal information to third parties.

4. Third-Party Services

Journiarc relies on the following third-party services to operate:

• Vercel: Hosts Journiarc and delivers every page. It processes standard request data, such as IP addresses and browser details, to serve the site and keep it secure. See Vercel's Privacy Policy.
• Supabase: Provides our database, authentication, and file storage. Data is stored on Supabase-managed infrastructure. See Supabase's Privacy Policy.
• Resend: Sends our emails. It receives your email address and the content of each email we send you. See Resend's Privacy Policy.
• Google OAuth: Powers the optional “Sign in with Google” button. It is governed by Google's Privacy Policy.

5. Cookies and Local Storage

We use cookies and browser storage to provide the features you request, keep your account secure, and understand how people find projects on Journiarc. We do not use advertising cookies or third-party analytics services, and we do not share this information with advertisers.

• Authentication cookies: Supabase uses cookies to maintain your signed-in session and help secure access to your account. These are essential to provide account features you request.
• Session preference cookie: We use a cookie named collaboratory-session-only-auth to remember that you chose not to persist your sign-in session. It is used only for authentication behavior and has no tracking purpose.
• Referral cookie: If you arrive through an invite link or a link with a referral tag, a cookie named cl_ref remembers that tag for up to 30 days, so a later sign-up or follow can be credited to the link that brought you. The same tag is also kept in local storage.
• Visit cookie: A cookie named cl_sid holds a random, anonymous ID until you close your browser. We use it to group the project page views and follow prompts from a single visit.
• Browser local storage: We store board drafts (including a comment, reaction, or suggestion you start before signing in, kept for up to an hour), your board view and share card settings, which changelog updates you've seen, and whether you've already seen a project's follow prompt during this visit. This information stays on your device unless you clear it or the relevant feature removes it.

We do not use these technologies for advertising or to track you across other websites. You can manage or clear cookies and local storage through your browser settings, although doing so may sign you out or remove locally saved drafts and preferences.

6. Data Retention

Your account data is retained for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, your personal information will be removed from our systems within a reasonable timeframe, except where retention is required by law or for legitimate operational purposes.

7. Your Rights

Depending on where you are located, you may have the right to:

• Access the personal data we hold about you
• Request correction of inaccurate data
• Request deletion of your account and associated data
• Object to or restrict certain processing of your data

8. Children's Privacy

Journiarc is not directed at children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will remove it promptly.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. Continued use of Journiarc after any changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
